ABOUT

ABOUT BROOKLYN BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

At Brooklyn Behavioral Therapy, we are committed to providing evidence-based treatment - treatment that works. We understand that many clients are suffering greatly in their lives. Many have tried a lot of different kinds of therapy and are left feeling like "nothing helps."

We specialize in providing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as couples therapy, trauma treatment and OCD treatment using the latest empirically-supported methods. Please read more about the services we provide and our specialties

We also are committed to trying to address inequities within the mental health system. We understand that access to quality care is a problem. We understand that clients often have negative experiences with therapy in which they feel unheard or misunderstood. And we also want to try to challenge an unequal system that hurts everyone, clients and staff included.

You can read our values statement here.

Here's how we try to live our values:

PROVIDING EFFECTIVE, COMPASSIONATE MENTAL HEALTH CARE

We know how important it is that what we do actually improves the lives of our clients. In order to ensure that we are always providing treatment that works, we pursue continuous training, consult with other experts regularly, and stay-up-to date on the research. We are always looking for our own limitations and how we need to address them.

Part of doing this means listening to our clients and hearing them if they say something isn't working. We make a commitment to believing every client's description of their lived experience and approaching them with radical empathy while we guide them in their work to make their own lives better.

INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY FOR CLIENTS:SLIDING SCALE AND MUTUAL AID FUND

Brooklyn Behavioral Therapy is committed to providing accessible care to as many clients as we can. We have a very generous sliding scale and reserve a number of significantly reduced fee spots for clients in need. We also have a mutual aid subsidy model in which clients who can afford to pay the full session fee subsidize spots for clients without financial means.

Please see our "Mutual Aid" page for more information on how we try to address accessibility challenges.

CREATING A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR THERAPISTS:FAIR WAGES AND BENEFITS

Our therapists are paid a fair wage. We provide paid time off and health benefits as well as profit-sharing bonuses. We also encourage an environment of open communication.
